NK Mehta family contributions
The Mehta Group is sincerely committed to upholding the vision of its founder NK Mehta through our Corporate Social Responsibilities arm.
Amongst the many schools that have been constructed by the Group throughout Uganda, the following contributions are particularly noteworthy
As part of our CSR we provide subsidized education facilities to more than 6000 children from Nursery to Secondary level through our 3 Nurseries, 13 Primary (run partially with Government assistance) and 1 Secondary School. These children come from within our estate as well as the surrounding areas.
The Mehta Group provides free basic healthcare to all our workers and their families. We have one clinic manned by a nurse at each of our 11 plantation camps, and a small primary care hospital with around 40 beds at the main centre. The medical services provided are basic maternity services, hospital treatment for illnesses such as malaria, minor surgery and outpatient services. We also provide counseling to families and advice on hygiene, living with AIDS, managing child health amongst other health issues. We have a basic pathology laboratory, which primarily tests for malaria and a few other vital tests. We provide ongoing long-term care to our patients. We have a contingent of two doctors one clinical officer and approximately fourty five nurses.
Mehta Little League
A passion for baseball led local coach Henry Odong to start training Mehta school kids in Lugazi after school. His hard work, vision and dedication paid off multifold when in 2012 history was created. The under 11 team made it through to the Little League World Baseball Series held in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
They were the first team to represent Africa in the 66-year history of the Little League World Series.
“None of the family members from Lugazi were able to afford the trip, but Uganda still received the loudest cheer of all when they were announced at the opening ceremonies. Throughout the tournament, fans were seen wearing Uganda shirts and hats, and constantly asking the team for photos and autographs” – CNN news.
The Mehta Group is fully committed to facilitating and nurturing our home grown talent by providing all equipment and training facilities through our dedicated team of coaches.
